Omid Barkhordar, DDS
Dr. Omid Barkhordar – Orthodontist
While straightening teeth has been around since ancient times, it wasn’t until the early 1900s that orthodontists starting using metals and other materials to construct devices designed to move teeth into a more proper position. More and more advances have occurred through the years right up to now. Today, you can benefit from one of the most respected orthodontists available at See Me Smile Dental.
Most people think of braces when they hear the word orthodontics. There are different types of braces, but they all share the same goal: to correct the development and position of teeth and the jaw for the most optimum alignment. Not only are straight, aligned teeth much better for oral health, there’s no denying the aesthetics of having a bright, straight smile. Further, teeth that are properly positioned for a correct bite make chewing much easier. Not only will you enjoy food more, your health is enhanced because you are now getting better nutrition.
Do You Need Orthodontic Services?
Orthodontists change how your teeth fit together, along with creating a balance with the jaw and facial features. The most common conditions addressed by orthodontics include:
- Reducing gaps between teeth
- Straightening teeth that are crooked
- Improving eating functions
- Improving speech functions
- Fixing an improper bite
- Reducing an over abundance of wear on misaligned teeth
Today, there are several options for straightening teeth. Both children and adults alike are able to have braces and their benefits. Which one is right for you depends on the extent of correction needed, your age, and your overall oral health. Dr. Barkhordar will conduct a thorough exam at his dental practice using x-rays and impressions, to assess what exactly is needed to get the desired result. For teeth straightening, the following are the main methods used at See Me Smile Dentistry:
Metal braces have been around the longest and for good reason – because they work. Modern orthodontic treatment utilizes stainless steel brackets that are bonded to the enamel of your tooth using a strong adhesive and then attached to each other using wires and elastics. You can even add a personal touch to your braces by using specific colored brackets.
Also known as ceramic braces, porcelain braces are made of composite materials and offer a more subtle approach over metal braces. They are less noticeable because porcelain braces match the natural color of your teeth. Porcelain brackets have the possibility of staining if proper care is not taken.
These braces consist of removable, clear plastic “trays” that fit over the teeth of one or both arches. They can be removed for teeth cleaning and when you want to eat or drink. For teens and adults who wish for their braces to be nearly invisible, these offer a great alternative.
Dr. Barkhordar will advise you of which type is best for your particular needs.

Other Orthodontic Devices
We offer more than just braces. Orthodontics includes a range of products that are designed to fix and correct our mouths or other conditions. For example, some people with sleep apnea benefit with custom-made mouth guards that move the position of the jaw during sleep so that the airway isn’t obstructed. Another type of mouth guard can be used to prevent teeth grinding.
Our goal at See Me Smile is to create the smile of your dreams and the best oral health possible. Give our office a call at (805) 963-2915 or learn more about the orthodontic services we offer and how you can benefit from orthodontic treatment.
