A dental bridge is a procedure for replacing a missing tooth. A false tooth is attached to the teeth next to it, creating a connection that looks just like a real tooth. It’s not attached to the gum, but rather cemented to two crowns on either side of it.
See Me Smile Dental has a knowledgeable team experienced in fitting bridges. If you’re considering if this procedure is right for you, consult with us to make sure it’s the best option.
This procedure is one of the simplest, least invasive ways to replace a missing tooth and leaves you with a comfortable and natural looking smile.
The option it’s often compared to is the implant, which involves creating a real, new tooth root which fuses with the bone and becomes just like a natural tooth. Implants are generally an excellent way to replace a missing tooth in a manner that is almost indistinguishable from the real thing.
However, implants are a more complex procedure. Sometimes the positioning or the bone may not allow for placing an implant, in which case a bridge would be the natural choice. If you’re looking for the best solution possible, Dr. Omid Barkhordar will be happy to help.
The three main types of bridges are Traditional, Cantilever, and Maryland Bonded.
A Traditional bridge is attached to crowns which are made for teeth on either side. A Cantilever bridge however, is attached only on one side – this is when there aren’t teeth on both sides of the bridge to hold it together. A Maryland Bonded bridge on the other hand is supported by a metal framework which attaches to your real teeth.
As with crowns or veneers, getting a dental bridge involves two painless visits. First, you’ll be examined, your suitability for a bridge assessed, and enamel will be removed from adjacent teeth to allow for crowns to be attached. The crowns and bridge will be made according to specification in the laboratory. On the second visit, both the bridge and crowns will be attached. It’s as simple as that.
